BETWEEN TRADITION AND MODERNISM
A LOOK BACK SHOWS THE WAY FORWARD
Our company was founded in 1973 in Tvis. As a sole proprietorship, John Gråkjær combined his first experiences with building turnkey farm buildings. From the beginning, the goal and the idea was to be a one-stop provider of all building services.
In 1985 Gråkjær Staldbyg expanded its construction activities to the Scandinavian countries, Sweden and Norway, and to Germany in 1989. The nineties were characterised by development and optimisation of working and construction processes in the ever-increasing construction projects.
With persistence and extensive experience, the company expanded its scope in 2001 to include turnkey industrial and commercial construction, which has since become the second business area of the successful Group. As a result of strongly increasing turnover and more employees, the office space and workshops in Tvis became too small in only a few years. The company moved to Holstebro and simultaneously established itself outside Scandinavia's borders.
In 2003, Gråkjær took a major expansionary step by establishing the German subsidiary, GRÅKJÆR GmbH.
Gråkjær is still expanding its construction activities in Scandinavia. In Sweden, more orders for major agricultural buildings have been obtained and agreements have been entered into for industrial construction projects in Skåne.
Recognising that industrial and agricultural buildings must be managed differently, Gråkjær divides its activities in Germany, Norway and Sweden into an agriculture department and an industrial department.
Since its establishment in 1973 until today, Gråkjær has grown to be the largest Danish agricultural turnkey contractor, and since 1989 has operated at an international level in Germany and in Northern and Eastern Europe.
